“Kuumbwa” (pronounced koo-um-ba, silent “w”), a Swahili word meaning “act of spontaneous creation.”
Kuumbwa Jazz is an internationally recognized nonprofit jazz venue and education organization. Kuumbwa is one of the longest weekly nonprofit jazz presenters on the West Coast, established in 1975. Generally Monday nights feature National/International known jazz acts, while Thursday nights Cookin' at Kuumbwa (Jazz & Dinner Series) features Local/Regional acts. Other nights of the week, the venue is rented by independent concert promoters bringing in such acts including Americana, folk, Celtic and world music. The venue is also available for special occasions such as receptions, private parties, and community events. In-house catering is available.
Kuumbwa is committed to Jazz Education opportunities for everyone. Programs include: High School Honor Jazz Band, Summer Jazz Camp, Artist in the Schools Program, and Master Class Series.
Cafe Kuumbwa serves dinner before all Kuumbwa produced shows, plus lighter fare on all other nights. Our bar offers microbrewed beer (bottled & draft) wine, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Kuumbwa Jazz is an all ages, non-smoking, handicapped accessible venue.
