French-American pianist Jacky Terrasson came up through the venerable jazz school of Betty Carter, accompanying the iconic singer for many years. There’s no lack of variety in Terrasson’s approach to material, as he incorporates funk, soul and allusions to contemporary pop songs amongst his arrangements. Following the pianist’s elasticity and free-flowing concerts (where spontaneity is the modus operandi) his trio has an uncanny ability to swing through Terrasson’s melodic inversions and rollicking vamps, as well as the moments of soft and sparse dynamics.
