Voted three years in a row as a Rising Star in DownBeat magazine’s Critics Poll, Avishai has been winning accolades as a talent to watch. Cohen’s bassist, Tal Mashiach, has quickly made a name for himself in New York’s jazz scene since relocating from his native Israel, and drummer Nasheet Waits (son of drum legend Freddie Waits), was an original member of Jason Moran’s Bandwagon, a group JazzTimes called, “the most exciting rhythm section in jazz.” Led by Cohen’s lyrical virtuosity on the trumpet, Lindner, Mashiach and Waits take modern music to a new level.
