Performing original music and inventive vocal arrangements of standards drawn from the full spectrum of jazz, the ensemble taps into swing, Afro-Cuban, funk, and Brazilian grooves with ease and aplomb. The vocalists of Mainswing are soprano Michele Rivard; alto Mona Dena; and tenor Mark Bidelman. Steve Wilson does double-duty as the group's baritone vocalist and featured trombone soloist. Keeping Mainswing in high gear is the top-notch, veteran rhythm section of Martan Mann – piano; Dan Robbins – bass; and Michael Strunk – drums. It's vocal jazz at its very best.
